Dr. Brené Brown’s Dare to Lead™ 2-Day Leadership Program

DTL_BookLogo__Horizontal-Gradient (1).png

Dare to Lead™ is the ultimate playbook for developing brave leaders and courageous cultures. Daring leadership is a collection of four courage skill sets that are 100% teachable. It’s learning and practice that requires brave work, tough conversations, and showing up with our whole hearts.

Based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown, the Dare to Lead™ program is an empirically based, courage-building program based on four skill sets that are teachable, measurable, and observable. This 2-day training workshop, led by Certified Dare to Lead™ Facilitator Michelle Myers, will equip participants with language, tools, and exercises to put these four skills into immediate practice.

Rumbling with Vulnerability: face risk, uncertainty, and tough conversations with courage, clarity, and empathy.

Living into our Values: identify what you stand for and how to show up from a place of integrity every day.

BRAVING Trust: build meaningful and authentic connections with your teams, colleagues and customers so you can work together from a foundation of trust.

Learning to Rise: become aware of your emotions and stories and learn how to show up and lead with courage… even when faced with failure, disappointment, and setbacks.

Date and Time: September 25 and 26 | 8:30 am Check-in and Breakfast | 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Dare to Lead™ program

Included in this 2-day program:  Dare to Lead™ Workbook | Dare to Lead™ Participant Certification | Dare to Lead™ Trained Badge for LinkedIn | Light breakfast, drinks and snacks

Cancellation & Refund Policy: Full refunds for cancellations submitted prior to 14 days of the training start date. A $150 USD processing fee will be withheld for any cancellation made within 14 days of the training start date. Requests to transfer your registration to another participant must be made in writing no later than 7 days prior to your training start date.

Program Registration and Fees:

  • Member-only registration through July 21

  • Course Fee - $695 for Co-Co members, $795 for non-members

  • Registration fee - $20 for Co-Co members, $50 for non-members

Dr. Brené Brown has spent more than twenty years studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and she recently completed a seven-year study on brave leadership. Leadership is not about titles or the corner office. It’s about the willingness to step up, put yourself out there, and lean into courage. In her latest book, Dare to Lead™, Brené interviewed over 150 global C-suite executives based on one question: what, if anything, about the way people are leading today needs to change in order for leaders to be successful in a complex, rapidly changing environment where we’re faced with seemingly intractable challenges and an insatiable demand for innovation.  The answer… we need braver leaders and more courageous cultures. It’s time for all of us to step up. The goal of the two-day Dare to Lead™ training program  is to share everything we’ve learned about taking off the armor and showing up as leaders in an increasingly complex world.

The greatest barrier to daring leadership is not fear; the greatest barrier is armor – how we self-protect when we feel uncertain. Over the course of this workshop, you'll learn the skills to move from armored leadership to daring leadership. Daring leaders are self-aware, know how to have hard conversations, hold themselves and others accountable, build trust, lead with empathy and connection, take smart risks that lead to innovation, reset quickly after disappointments and setbacks, and give and receive feedback – especially when it’s tough.

Wellness Wednesday: Resilience Workshop

A rich conversation on ideas, inspirations and skills that can help us all move through challenging times and transitions. Led by co-authors Melanie Curtis, Sarah Walko and Kirsten Kramer of the graphic memoir, With Our Whole Broken Hearts.

Kirsten Kramer is a figurative artist originating from the artist community of DUMBO in Brooklyn, NY (http://kirstenkramerart.com). She developed her interest in figurative work while studying Fine Art at SUNY University of Buffalo. Her work has been displayed in various group and solo exhibitions throughout the US. Her series "Hearts" in her paintings and drawings inspired the heart character in this book. She believes the heart is a symbol of so much more than comfort and connection, but of love, life and death

Sarah Walko is a visual artist, writer, director and curator and has a BA in studio art practices from the University of Maryland and an MFA from Savannah College of Art and Design (http://www.sarahwalko.com). For the past twelve years she has directed and curated for institutions, non-profits and independent projects and she is currently the Director of Education and Community Outreach at the Visual Art Center of New Jersey. In these various positions, as well as in everything she does, she believes in art not as a thing, but as a WAY.

Melanie Curtis is a speaker, author, life coach and professional skydiver (http://melaniecurtis.com) helping high-achievers through uncertainty and fear. A Middlebury College and iPec Coaching graduate, Melanie has competed, coached and led large events around the world as a headlining coach with over 11,000 jumps to date. Melanie co-hosts her own growth-minded, spiritually seeking podcast, Trust the Journey (http://trustthejourney.today). Melanie has published three books, One Positive Thought Can Change Everything, With Our Whole Broken Hearts and her most significant to date, How to Fly: Life Lessons from a Professional Skydiver. Continuing with the theme of public art, also meet contemporary abstract artist Gail Winbury. Gail’s work is currently on exhibit at The Co-Co and available for purchase through a partnership between The Co-Co and the Visual Arts Center of NJ.

5:00 pm Social Hour at The Co-Co

5:30 pm Depart for Art Walk

6:15 pm Return to The Co-Co, Social Hour continues with an introduction of Gail Winbury and her work

Summit Public Art is a volunteer-based city organization whose mission is to bring art to public spaces throughout Summit.  Founded in 2002 as the Mayor’s Partnership for Public Art, its mission is to enhance our cityscape, infusing it with assorted contemporary art installations that provide public art experiences to those who live, work in, or visit Summit.

These aesthetic experiences enrich citizens’ quality of life, creating community ties and pride.  They differentiate Summit from surrounding communities. Public art is unique in that it is truly free to all, inspiring curiosity and wonder, rest and contemplation.

Over the past fourteen years Summit Public Art has installed over 65 pieces of temporary art throughout the community, The artists represented include many of national and international renown. The committee has also sponsored and facilitated two permanent installations on Broad Street: three bus shelters and the Gateway Tree sculpture welcoming people to town.

Santoleri-SPA.jpg

Gail Winbury’s background as a psychologist strongly influences her career as an artist. She blends universal and subjective experience, memory, emotion, and psychological theory with abstraction. Using abstract painting, drawing and collage, she merges the boundaries of painting, sculpture, and drawing, breaking the 2D picture plane. Lilly Wei, international art critic and journalist writes: “Experimenting is easy for her, integral to her approach to painting, which depends upon intuition as well as more calculated decisions. What is most significant to her is to continue to find new ways to animate her paintings, to give them emotional edge, to meaningfully convey narratives that are often biographical. Winbury’s art espouses themes that are psychological and philosophical, exploring states of being, probing the big questions. Each of her paintings always holds her essential premise, founded on uncertainty and intangible longings, on the complexity of the human condition” (2016, in Gail Winbury: Paintings, Drawings and Travel Paintings, ed. Mary Scotti, 73 See Gallery, Montclair, NJ)

Winbury currently resides in New Jersey with a studio in East Orange. She lives part of every year in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She studied at the School of Visual Arts, the Provincetown Museum School, and around Europe. She also studied for 15 years with Chinese American artist Dorothy Yung, an influential mentor and teacher. She has had more than 8 solo exhibitions in regional museums, universities and galleries throughout the United States and Europe. She will have a two-person exhibition this fall at the College of Morris. Winbury has been awarded several artist residencies and awards including a residency at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, The Curtis Hillyard Memorial Award (2001), and several Curators Choice Awards (2015, 2016, and 2019). Her work is featured in numerous publications including a book of Bach’s Cello Solos and two blogs: “Painters Talking Painting” and “Art Spiel”. Winbury’s paintings and collages are in public and private collections in the United States, Germany, Mexico, and Italy.

She received a package design award from Parsons and has had many works featured in the Parsons Gallery. A successful Package and Design Artist with 15 years’ experience, Luba’s label designs are featured in famous marketplaces around the country such as Whole Foods.

Presently, Luba has been focusing on her oil paintings of seascapes and landscapes. Living on the New Jersey peninsula surrounded by the Navesink and Shrewsbury Rivers and the Atlantic Ocean, Luba is never far from the beauty of the shore. The inspiration of these places are evident in her work, expressed in her compositions of daily life along the shoreline.

2018 marked a very successful year for Luba, including solo shows in Rumson, NJ and group shows in Malvern, PA and Red Bank, NJ. With her art permanently on display at Beauregard Fine Art Gallery in Rumson, New Jersey, and through other gallery shows in PA, NYC, and elsewhere Luba’s artwork has been purchased by art lovers and collectors throughout the United States.

Coming on the heels of a busy 2018, 2019 has already seen of 3 recent sold out shows, at Beauregard Fine Art in Rumson NJ, Art Jam 2019 in Princeton, NJ, and Luba’s most recent solo show entitled Northeast Light, at 3 Roberts Gallery in Bryn Mawr, PA which just concluded on May 15. Northeast Light focuses on light and reflection along the eastern shore line from Cape Ann, Cape Cod, and Martha’s Vineyard, through Cape May.
