I was a food blogger, when a former TV producer contact selected me to be a Dr. Oz blogger, but it was the worst mistake I ever made. I was armed with my mission statement and my recipes but my business wasn't ready. I had a great segment and was asked back but when I got back to my desk I realized my "opt in" was not active and I missed out on all the people that came to my website that week. I knew other women didn’t have the knowledge or background in TV that I did. I could help other small business owners and personal brands be ready for the spotlight.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. And every October, people from all around the world show their support for people affected by breast cancer. Early detection not only improves survival rates, but getting that annual mammogram (ugh, we know!) can completely prevent it. We all need to be proactive about our health. It was 1985. I applied through the Chinese Embassy in Washington DC to study law in China. I was accepted for graduate study at China People's University in Beijing. After 5 years of studying Chinese, I was finally headed to China. Rather than elation, my relatives expressed concern for my well being and mental health. I was from a small town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and going to Beijing seemed just short of flying to the moon.
