I grew up in Livingston, New Jersey. Then I lived in Western Massachusetts for 20 years, attending graduate school in Boston, where I received my Doctorate in Psychology. I returned to New Jersey as a psychologist at Rutgers University and later in private practice for over 30 years. I live in Westfield, New Jersey. 20 years ago, I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professional artist. I grew up painting with my father and continued in my adult life. Now, I have been a full-time artist for many years, exhibiting in Europe, Mexico, and the United States.
I recently had a solo museum exhibition and a solo exhibition at Kean University. Other solo and group exhibitions in galleries and universities. My paintings are in private and public collections, including the Canary Wharf Group Headquarters in London and a museum in Athens, Greece. Three years ago, I decided to pursue my MFA in Fine Arts. I will have my thesis exhibition this Summer, along with giving my thesis talk. My thesis is on The Intersection of Age, Gender, and the Body. The influence of gender and age is of great interest to me, and I was recently part of a panel at Montclair Art Museum about aging and creativity.
I have a studio in East Orange, New Jersey, where Co-Co Members are welcome. I am delighted to show my art. My paintings represent the inner geography of the emotional, physical, and psychological world. My task as an artist is to put into a visual language that which cannot, dare not, or is difficult to express in words. Through painting abstractly, I render those conditions evident. My background as a psychologist merges seamlessly with my painting. However, my profound love of the materiality of oil paint and the painting process is balanced with recognition of these psychological and contemporary concerns.
I have been the Artist-in-Residence for the Co-Co since its inception. I was invited by the Center of Visual Arts Curator and Director of Education to display my work, and I have done so since. I believe in women supporting women and the values that the Co-Co supports. It has been a pleasure to display my work for the Co-Co as a way to give back.
